When You Want The Best Grip and Traction for Trail Running!

Best trail running shoes for 2022 are designed to provide the best traction, grip, and comfort necessary for running on trails. The criteria for picking the best shoes is important to take into consideration. Some of the factors that influence our decision are: weatherproof, gaiter compatible, cushioning/support, stability, weight distribution, and durability.

See our list here and order yours today!

Women's Hoka Speedgoat 4

Hoka One One may have built their reputation around soft, heavily cushioned road and trail runners but we think that the Speedgoat 4 is an exceptional all-rounder.

The shoe has a thick midsole like Hoka's other shoes, but it balances comfort with weight very well while providing protection from rocks or dirt on hikes.

It also features a high traction outsole which holds up in both wet and dry environments making this one of our favorites for hiking despite its relatively low price point!

Brooks Cascadia GTX 15

Though the Cascadia has been a staple in Brooks' line for years, its 15th iteration still claims to be their best. This should tell you two things: one, runners (and thru-hikers) love this shoe and turn it to year after year as their go-to option for technical trail needs.

Hoka Speed Goat 4

GORE-TEX® and our Pivot Post system means you can confidently go the extra mile. The light, flexible upper provides a natural feel so you're not compromising on your run and the Pivot Post System offers stability and a natural feel with every stride.

Nike Pegasus Trail 2

The Nike Pegasus Trail 2 is a quality, max-cushioned option for trail work. It has been completely retooled from the ground up to include React midsole and wide flair forefoot which provide stability on moderate terrain as well as rubber outsole that provides solid traction in every situation.

Nike puts most of its efforts into road-running gear, but the Pegasus Trail 2 is a quality max cushioned option for trail work.

The predecessor to the old Pegasus 36 Trail, this ultra-modern shoe has been completely retooled from the ground up and now features Nike’s React midsole which provides both delightfully responsive cushioning as well as long-distance comfort.

The tall stack height is balanced out with a wide flair in the forefoot that provides stability on moderate terrain while it also offers great traction due to its full rubber outsoles so you can tackle any type of surface without an issue

Nike Women's Air Zoom Pegasus 37 Running Shoes

With the Pegasus 37, you can enjoy the exact same fit and feel that runners love. No matter how long it's been since you laced up, or how far you've come, we've got your feet covered.

The Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 is the latest innovation in running shoes and delivers the same fit and feel that runners love.

The only thing wrong then? This may be one of those cases where good news comes at too great a cost; you see while we love how soothingly soft they feel when running or walking.

Altra Lone Peak 5 Men's

Altra quickly progressed from an unknown to a go-to brand in the trail running community, and much of their rapid ascent can be attributed to the rise in popularity of zero-drop shoes.

An offshoot of the barefoot running movement, these ultra lightweight runners keep your foot naturally flat (most other brands elevate your heel by 4 to 10mm).

The Altra Lone Peak offers protection against blisters and durable MaxTrac outsole providing traction on all surfaces while still remaining light enough for longer journeys.

Altra Lone Peak 5 Women's

The Lone Peak 5 brings the best elements of the Lone Peak 4 and the Altra Provision together to create an excellent trail runner for both day hikes and off-road runs.

The MAXTRAC Outsole delivers maximum traction on the trails and a plush and comfortable ride in any environment.

  • The Altra Ego midsole technology provides a cushioned, more flexible ride.

  • The StoneGuard underfoot protection provides exceptional traction and durability. Benefit: The MAXTRAC Outsole provides excellent traction on the trails.

Salomon Speedcross 5

The Speedgoat is a great option for well-established trails, but its performance on mud and

snow isn't as good.

If you need optimal traction in these conditions, go with the Salomon Speedcross 5 which has 6mm arrow shaped lugs that grip into the ground with each step.

The upper of this shoe provides excellent support while still being snug-fitting to allow for speed at all times!

While the Speedcross is a great option for wet and rugged forest paths, it's not as versatile.

The tooth-like lugs are overkill on easy trails and gravel roads, while the tall stack height can make this shoe feel tippy on uneven ground with shorter lug designs offering better traction when exploring off of trail.

For more varied terrain we recommend one of our other shoes such as Bushido or Sense Ride which offer rockier soles that provides greater stability in rougher conditions like rocks where these shoes excels beyond all others!

Hoka Challenger ATR 6

The Hoka Challenger ATR 6

The Hoka Challenger ATR 6 has the best of both worlds; a lightweight and efficient road feel with an insole that is made to absorb shock from any terrain. The lugs on this shoe provide enough grip for light trails but are not too aggressive as to slow you down when covering more ground.

The ATR 6 is not the best shoe for every terrain. The close-spaced lugs make it difficult to grip on uneven surfaces and rocky paths, while as a road shoe the grippy sections can feel slow when running pavement.

Serious runners looking for maximum performance should buy one of each type so they do not have any compromises in their footwear!

Salomon Sence Ride 4

The Salomon Sense Ride is a tricky shoe to pin down, because it can be used for both on and off-trail runs. It has firm Optivibe foam in the midsole which makes this an excellent trail runner with great stability and balance.

The Contragrip rubber outsole also gives you highly durable protection while keeping your foot firmly planted when running over uneven surfaces or traversing technical terrain like steep hillsides.

We put 350 miles of trails through our new Sense Ride 3s by using them as all-rounders that are good enough for anything from door-to light hiking trips up mountains without compromising performance whatsoever!

The Salomon Sense Ride is a shoe with two identities. Some say it’s great for running on dirt roads, because its firm midsole and rubber outsole grip well enough to keep you upright as your feet pound the ground. But most people who run in them use them off-road all day long—on steep trails or through mud puddles that would send other shoes straight into their trash bin at home before morning coffee.
